the nitty gritty
✷ for our detail-oriented friends

Design
Once you have submitted the project kickoff form and signed the contract, we will begin the design process and create your digital design proof. The digital proof will show each component of your suite, with your wording and chosen color palette. Colors appear differently on screen than in real life, so we would be nothing short of thrilled to send you paper samples to see how everything looks together in person! If you have purchased a sample pack already, we will credit that cost back to the final shipping balance for your invitation suite. All proofs are sent as PDFs and will note the quantity, size, paper / envelope color, ink color(s), and print method for each piece as well. Please remember that colors appear differently on screen, and the color in the proof is a representation of the letterpress ink color we will mix by hand and print with in the studio. If you have any questions about the colors, please ask!

Proofing
After you receive the digital proof, you can take a look at every piece to review the wording and make a note of any corrections or updates needed. When reviewing your proofs, please look carefully at all names, dates, and locations to ensure that they are correct, making sure to confirm that all spelling is correct. We will also ask you to confirm the final quantity needed, ensuring that the count is for households rather than individual guests, and that it includes plenty of extras.

Feedback
You can share your feedback either by adding notes directly to the proof PDF or by email in written format. Many of our clients find it easiest to make a bullet point list of specifics to ensure they address all edits they’d like to see. If you’d like to gather feedback from any additional people (your planner, any family members, etc), we ask that you consolidate all edit requests into a single comprehensive email.

Revision
Once we receive your feedback, we will make the edits and create a revised proof with your final selections for review. We will also send you a high resolution PDF that you can print to scale, to review everything in its final size.
Please note that we will not send physical, printed proofs of your suite before we go into production. By default, all suites are sent unassembled and do not include postage. If you would like to add either of these extras, we certainly can! Just let us know, and we’ll make a note of that on the revised proof.

Approval
Once you approve the revised proof, we will put together and send the plate proof for your final approval and official sign off. Once you have reviewed the plate proof PDF, you can electronically initial and sign the plate proof approval form, and then we will begin production! Once you sign the plate proof and we begin production, we cannot make any new changes to your set without incurring additional fees and / or production delays.

Production
Once you sign the plate proof approval form, we go into production mode! We'll order your letterpress and foil plates for printing, as well as any specialty color paper and envelopes we need. Once the plates and paper arrive, we'll begin printing! We mix every ink color by hand in the studio and print each ink color on each piece one at a time.
After the plate proof is signed, production takes 15 - 20 business days. Please allow up to five business days of additional time for any additional finishing touches.

Addressing
The final item we will need once production is underway is your completed guest address spreadsheet, if you have chosen digital envelope addressing. We'll share an excel template and instructions that you can use to submit your final guest list. Please remember to write all names and addresses exactly as you’d like them to appear on the envelopes (abbreviations, spelling, etc). Once we receive your final list, we will format the addresses and print your envelopes! We ask that the list is submitted only once it is complete, so we can print all envelopes in a single batch. It is best to start collecting addresses early, as it can take a while to compile the full address list.

Shipping!
Once production is complete, we will send you shipping speed and pricing options, so you can select your shipping method. We ship via insured FedEx and require a signature for delivery, so you can share a shipping address where someone is able to sign for the package. If you are local and would like to pick up your completed invitations from our Redondo Beach studio, you are welcome to do this instead of receiving them via FedEx — just let us know on the plate proof approval form. Shipping is not included when you purchase your suite online, and we'll send a separate invoice for this final cost. FedEx Ground shipping costs are typically between $35 and $70, and pricing for Express Saver, Two Day, and Overnight is available upon request.
All invitations are sent unassembled, unless assembly was specifically requested and included on the invoice. If you did not request assembly, our default packaging method is shipping everything wrapped separately — i.e. a stack of invitations, a stack of RSVP cards, etc. After payment is complete, we’ll be in touch with your tracking information so you know exactly when your package will arrive!
